Unnatural Causes at the San Jose Repertory Theatre

On April 11, 2008 The Health Trust teamed up with the County of Santa Clara Public Health Department to host a screening of the first episode in the Unnatural Causes series. More than 275 people came to the San Jose Rep to view the first episode, "In Sickness and In Wealth", which discusses the social determinants of health and health inequities as they exist in the U.S. Prior to the screening Dr. Martin Fenstersheib gave a presentation on health inequities as they exist in Santa Clara County. The event was concluded with a panel discussion that focused both on the kinds of health inequities that exist in the region, but also characteristics unique to the county that could both contribute to and/or reduce health disparities.

This June, as part of its effort to reduce health disparities and raise awareness about health inequity, The Health Trust awarded numerous mini grants to local organizations to host their own screenings of Unnatural Causes and continue the discussion. This blog, created to serve as a companion tool for the grantees, is where you - as a grantee - are encouraged to discuss everything related to Unnatural Causes, the social determinants of health, your experiences hosting screenings of the series, and (perhaps most importantly) any solutions that could reduce health disparities.

If you need to post your event dates, times, and or if you are seeking other information please be sure to email Teddy at TeddyD@healthtrust.org.
